WHY CLUB VOLLEYBALL?

For those players and parents who want something beyond recreational volleyball in the off-season, club volleyball is perhaps the best answer.
The “Club system”, with its lengthy season and larger coaching staff, is better able to provide a more comprehensive training program then at
your average high school. Position training and detailed attention to individual skill development, are some of the main benefits of participation
in a club program.  Many of the clubs have within their staffs veteran coaches with extensive background and knowledge. Also within the
“club system”, are those who possess vast experience in the college recruiting and placement process. Each player has their own incentives
for playing club. Many use it to develop into solid high school players. For some it is an opportunity to pursue a college scholarship. For everyone
it becomes a vehicle for personal growth, increased self-confidence, maturation, and goal development.

WHEN IS THE SEASON?

Player evaluations for our travel teams begin in November. Travel team rosters are set, and practices begin in December.  Tournament
 play begins in January
and  are held on either a Saturday or Sunday with some events being two-day or three-day tournaments. There
are about nine “SCVA” tournament dates, generally played in the Los Angeles area. There are additional invitational and/or recruiting
tournaments which some of our teams will attend throughout the season. The season climaxes with most of our teams attending the
Volleyball Festival  Jr.  National  Championships.

WHERE AND WHEN DOES THE NCVC PRACTICE?

Our practices will be in Escondido and Fallbrook. We will use Escondido High School and the Palomar YMCA also on Broadway,
a couple of blocks south of the high school. We will also use Fallbrook High School on the corner of south Mission & Stagecoach.
Teams practice two  times a week throughout the season. Practice times during the week are between 5–9pm, with the younger
teams (5th-8th grades) practicing early, and the older teams practicing at the later times. Saturday practices are between
9am-2pm. Sunday practices are between 1-9pm. Emphasis is placed on both individual skill development as well as advanced
team concepts.

PLAYER EVALUATIONS

Following preliminary evaluations, players will be assigned to training groups based on age, skill level, and position requirements.
Once into the training program, players will be assigned to an age-group team for the tournament season.

SELECTION CRITERIA

Coaches will be looking for highly motivated players with strong work ethic, positive attitudes, and the athletic ability to
develop into competitive athletes. The Travel teams will attend the Volleyball Festival at the end of the season.  The Local (non-travel) program
will practice twice  a week. This program will emphasize skill development and position training. Friendship competition will be
arranged once a month.

WHAT IS THE PROGRAM PHILOSOPHY ON PLAYING TIME?

NCVC is committed to providing each of its players with an equal opportunity to participate in all practice sessions, as well as regular
rotation of team members at tournaments. This can be contingent upon level of commitment, work ethic, and attendance at practices.
There will be a higher priority for success placed on our  more advanced teams.

POLICIES REGARDING MULTI-SPORT ATHLETES

As far as other sports, we DO NOT expect a young player to totally commit to volleyball only. If you wish to participate in other sports or
activities, we will discuss arrangements to accommodate your plans. However, your level of commitment will be a factor in determining
which team you are assigned to, and your role on that team. First, you must attend at least one of your team’s practices on any given week.
If you miss a practice, you must attempt a make-up practice with another team within that week. Make arrangements in advance with your
coach to attend another team’s practice.

DOES PLAYING CLUB INSURE A COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIP?

No. It is an investment of time and money in a young woman’s future, and as with any investment, there are many factors which contribute to
what dividends are paid. Much depends on the individual … their determination, commitment, and physical /emotional development. College
coaches almost exclusively recruit from club programs. High School seasons run concurrent with the college season, which precludes college
coaches being able to see high school matches. In addition, club players have advanced skills, greater number of training hours, and exposure
to other top level players and programs.

 COLLEGE RECRUITING SERVICE

Playing sports at the collegiate level can be a very rewarding experience. A college athletic scholarship can be worth as much as $100,000, or
more, to a talented high school athlete. While some high school athletes are actively recruited by college coaches without any effort on their part,
the vast majority of athletes do need to take some initiative to get the attention of college recruiters. Though getting a scholarship is never a guarantee,
the NCVC is able to facilitate the recruiting process due to years of experience and the extensive network we have established with intercollegiate
volleyball programs. We are continually striving to increase the national exposure of our NCVC program.
